1989 Imported 15.3H Lusitano Heterozygous Black Stallion Veiga Bloodline bred by Jose Santos Alonso Rancho la Jarrilla
Halconero, Spanish for “Hawk”, is aptly named for his keen intelligence, sensitivity and extreme agility both on the ground and in the air. Can you spell VERSATILITY?? He is accomplished not only as a bullfighting stallion where he thrilled the crowds in Mexico, but also as a grand prix jumper! Hawk has consistently produced outstanding offspring. Jaz Ranch is proud to announce the addition of this wonderful stallion and look forward to his Azteca offspring in 2012, the majority of which will be black or grullo. |

Lusitanos and Aztecas Arrive at Jaz Ranch
Jaz Ranch is pleased to introduce the Lusitano horse from Portugal and the Azteca to their breeding program. Over the past two decades, Jaz Ranch has developed a successful Foundation Quarter Horse breeding program with over 400 offspring to their credit. After becoming acquainted with the athleticism and versatility of the Lusitano, Jaz Ranch owners Brent Jensen and Gail Zscheile became enamored with the breed and recently added the Lusitano and the Azteca to their program.

Here is an except from an article written by Emmy Award winning Nathan Kositsky, appearing in the Andalusian Magazine Issue 4, 2008: “… Veiga-bred Lusitano stallion, Halconero, within short months after being purchased out of the Mexican bullfights, (and after spontaneously jumping even the 5’ ranch elk fences so he could randomly visit the ladies). ’Hawk” was promptly dispatched to Dr. Hill’s Canadian friend, Jim Ifco of Canada’s Olympic Jumping Team, who immediately started Hawk in Show Jumping training and competition at Spruce Meadows near Calgary...competing him through the Canadian circuit… all the way to qualifying for Worlds in this, his first jumping season, in a storm-and-hail plagued round at Edmonton’s Northumberland Park.” |
